Koyomi Takasaki, who lives with his mother following his parents' divorce, enrolls in a local university prep school. Due to the atmosphere concentrated on studies and his social awkwardness, Koyomi is unable to make friends. One day, he is suddenly approached by his classmate Kazune Takigawa, who tells him that she has travelled from the 85th world where she and Koyomi are lovers.
小历跟着母亲并改从母姓为高崎历，与母亲和外公同住。小历在十岁那年意外回到了早逝的外公仍活着的平行世界，并在短暂的梦境之后回到现实，小历因此得知了平行世界的存在。
等到小历升上高中之后，因为成绩优秀而与班上人群产生了距离感。某一天小历被同班同学泷川和音叫住后，两人开始单独见面，和音自称来自第85号的平行世界，并对小历抱持着高傲冷淡的态度；和音虽然表示自己在跟那个具男子气概的小历交往，而不是她眼前的小历，让小历感到失望的同时，也下定决心追求和音、试图引起她的注意并获得她的认同。
小历与和音两人之间，接下来的感情走向，将会遇到何种考验与挑战，携手度过难关，建立属于两个人的未来……

小历跟着父亲，名字依然叫做日高历。年幼的小历在托儿所内偶遇了虚质科学研究所所长的女儿佐藤栞，并被小栞带领到研究所内最神秘的“IP胶囊”；而小历突然接到了宠物狗优诺死于车祸的噩耗，希望能借着IP胶囊的神奇力量，让他回到优诺还在世的平行世界……
小历在见到优诺并回到现实之后，就跟小栞发展到两小无猜的情谊。某日小历父亲和小栞母亲，向孩子们宣告了两人交往并决定再婚的消息，小历和小栞他们担心成为义兄妹之后就无法结婚，于是他们俩试图再次借助IP胶囊的力量，希望回到两人不会成为义兄妹的平行世界；但机器启动之后，小历发现小栞已经失去意识，陷入脑死昏迷状态，让小历和小栞母亲陷入空前的悲怆与绝望……
小历为了将沦为“十字路口的幽灵”的小栞拯救回现实世界，并挽救覆水难收的过去，他该如何找到与小栞再次重逢的答案呢……
